An investigation of the prolonged pressor response to renin in the nephrectomized rat.
نویسنده
چکیده
1. In an investigation of the prolonged pressor response to renin that develops after nephrectomy, angiotensin I dose-response curves and rat renin clearances were studied in nephrectomized rats and paired sham-nephrectomized control animals under pentobarbitone anaesthesia. 2. Both threshold and slope of the angiotensin I dose-response curves were decreased at 15-27 h after nephrectomy. 3. The ratio of renin clearance (determined during renin infusions) in the nephrectomized rat to that in the paired sham-nephrectomized control animals was 0-49+/-0-03 (SEM), P less than 0-001 (n = 12 pairs). 4. Both factors contribute towards the prolongation of the blood pressure increase after intravenously administered renin in the nephrectomized animal.

متن کاملThe Effects of Human New Pressor Protein and Coagulation Factor XIIa on Blood Pressure and Heart Rate in Bilaterally Nephrectomized Rats
Background: New Pressor Protein (NPP) is a human plasma enzyme structurally related to b–fragment of activated factor XІІ (β-FXIIa). The objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of NPP and β-FXIIa on systolic blood pressure and heart rate in bilateral nephrectomized rats. Methods: Forty male Wistar rats (250-300 g) were sham-operated or bilaterally nephrectomized under anes...
متن کاملProtracted pressor response to angiotensin after bilateral nephrectomy in rats.
• The potentiating effect of nephrectomy on the pressor response to renin injection has been known since the discovery of renin by Tigerstedt and Bergman in 1898, and has been used occasionally as a device for increasing the sensitivity of the assay animal in biological determinations of renin or angiotensin. The response of nephrectomized rats to injected renin differs from that of control anim...
متن کاملAngiotonin-activator, Renin- and Angiotonin-inhibitor, and the Mechanism of Angiotonin Tachyphylaxis in Normal, Hypertensive, and Nephrectomized Animals
1. Angiotonin does not exert its vasoconstrictor effect in the absence of a substance contained in red blood cells and serum which we have called "angiotonin-activator." A fraction has been separated from blood in which angiotonin-activator is concentrated. It contains little or no reninactivator. 2. Repeated intravenous injections of angiotonin into animals causes the pressor response graduall...
متن کاملAngiotensin and Renin in Rat and Dog Brain
An enzyme with the characteristics of classical renin was isolated from brain extracts of nephrectomized dogs. This enzyme is thermolabile, nondialyzable, and forms a vasoconstrictive material when incubated with renin plasma substrate at pH 7. A short lasting pressor activity was also found in brain extracts of dogs and rats. This activity was due to a substance identified by chemical and phar...
